LEE Sin Ki tends to be calm and introverted. She enjoys observing the world around her and takes the ubiquitous emotions of people as the inspiration for her drawing practice. By articulating such narratives on a piece of paper, and eventually potentially a book, she hopes to share her insights into 'ordinary' life with a broader audience.

In addition to letting people see her stories through illustrations, she's particularly interested in exploring the haptic opportunities in bookmaking, adding weight and texture to her scope of expressive elements, and also her narratives. She believes a story enriched by the materiality of its medium will achieve greater 'realness' and thus impact more strongly the spiritual side of her audience.

If Cats Disappeared from the World is inspired by a fiction book with the same title. I designed the book in a visual and tactile way. The story talks about a 30-year-old man who lives alone with a kitten after his mother's death.

In the process of making this book, I tested a lot of materials and tried to express the feelings of the characters in the story. Simplifying and finding out the most suitable material is the most difficult and interesting part of presenting the story.

The River All Red was inspired by a Chinese poem of the same title by Yue Fei. It is a book about the author’s feelings when he faced adversity at the time of creating the poem. I used different materials and visual elements to express the anger and sadness inside the poem. The big word on Xuan paper represents the strong feelings of the poem. I cut them into many pieces and stitched them together to form a book. I selected 2 words in the poem then wrote them in calligraphy on both the first and final pages of the book. That is a very prominent element in the design which can create a strong visual impact and attract people's attention.
