CHAN Hiu Lam, Victor is a multidisciplinary artist. The medium he used ranged from steel to glass, from silver to acrylic, and recently, he is focusing on using sound as a main element in  his works.

CHAN got inspiration from his daily life, he incorporates things that he thinks were interesting in his work, and at the same time he also thinks about how his work would be interacting with the audience. His works do not have a specific focus, but you could always think of the meaning behind his works.

陳曉霖愛好探索各種藝術媒介,他的靈感多來自於日常經歷。他同時亦注重作品與觀眾之間的互動,希望觀眾能藉此細想他作品背後的意思。

Revival

Interactive light installation

Size variable

The composition of the work is simple, it consists of a light bulb only. When we talk or even move loudly around the bulb, it gets dimmer; the louder we speak, the dimmer it gets. If we are loud enough, the light will perish, until after we are silent again.

The background of this piece is based on the notion of social-distancing. Light itself is metaphorical, it’s spiritual and it represents life. Light perishes, life perishes. Magnitude of sound is an indication of distance; when closer, it’s louder and vice versa. And sound itself is not constant, it has its own dynamic.
